Time flying by

As time flies by without any group meetings, and with no new photos to show, here are some old photos taken of members’ sewing, at Stitch and Chat meetings from the past. The first ones are from September 2016.

Please do send photos that can be added here, of past meetings or of current projects.

A hot summer for sewing

Despite the hot weather, quilters are still hard at work with their sewing. Here are some photos of a cushion, front and back, that Rosie made for a birthday present.

She’s also made 2 blocks for the quilt group’s charity quilt, with blue and yellow colours.

Rosie has also made a quilt top from 6″ squares cut from 10 pairs of cotton trousers (including denim and corduroy) and a cotton shirt, from her family’s castoffs. The next photograph shows part of it.

Her latest project is to try to finish a quilt she started 5 years ago, using some upholstery samples. This photograph shows it before it was quilted – there should be an update before too long!

Victoria’s handstitching

The next quilt group member to send in photographs of their sewing is Victoria, who makes wonderful handsewn items. First are some photographs taken showing close-up views of her appliqued hexagons.

And here’s a lovely view of them hanging on the washing line in Victoria’s sunny garden.

Lastly, a photograph of Victoria’s hand-sewn spring-theme wedding card.

May 2020 – staying at home

The quilt group continues to stay at home rather than meet up, so this is an opportunity to show each other what we have been working on.

This post shows some sewing by Gill – first two blocks for the group’s charity quilt, and two bags made for Project Linus.

Next is a photograph of a long promised quilt for Gill’s daughter and her partner, a Japanese water garden quilt. The back is damson and she has hand-quilted each square – a heart in the 4-squares and a plover in the big ones.

April – all change

Along with quilt groups the world over, we have had no meetings since March. But the quilt group members have been at home sewing, and some of them have sent photos to show us, so we will be adding them to the website for people to admire. This post show photos sent in by Bettina. We hope other members are all as busy, and will also be sending in pictures. There are more waiting to be uploaded, so do check back soon.

Stitch and chat – March 2020

Some of the quilt group members brought along their latest projects to show us.

Here’s a close up of one of the nine-patches.

And here is the first finished block for the quilt that the group have been asked to make for charity – we are making 12″ blocks, using blue and yellow fabrics, but using any pattern we like. We hope to get all the blocks together later this summer.

Christmas meeting

We held our annual Christmas meeting, with members bringing food and drink to share, and we had a quilters’ quiz, and several members entered the pincushion challenge.

We all voted for our favourite pincushion.

Here are different views of the pincushion unanimously chosen as the winner.

We also asked quilt group members to bring along anything Christmassy that they had made.
